2005 marks the 2,000th anniversary of the founding of Nijmegen, the oldest city in the Netherlands. To celebrate this historic milestone, the city is planning an array of events throughout the year. The international exhibition Nijmegen Masters at the French Court | 1400 - 1416 is one of these many events.

The Nijmegen 2000 Foundation was established to coordinate all of the diverse activities during this year of festivities. Most of the events have been initiated by the people of Nijmegen, as neighbourhoods, districts, organisations and individual citizens have come together to share their pride in their city. In addition, the Nijmegen 2000 Foundation - in cooperation with external sponsors - is organising larger events, such as pop concerts, festivals and cultural exhibitions.
